How we became Jittery :)
Our story begins when Mara learned how to knit after deploying to Kuwait. (Mara's an Army Veteran) Mara mainly learned to knit to help her deal with the stress of returning home, not having a job, and planning a wedding (she met her husband on deployment). She kept practicing and practicing and eventually learned how to make her own patterns. She really developed her knitting skills when she was stuck in Iraq for a year long deployment a couple of years after the Kuwait deployment.
Now during this time Amanda would occasionally sucker Mara into knitting gifts for her to give away. After having knit a whole afghan Mara finally put her foot down and bought Amanda a knitting kit along with a how to knit book. Amanda has been knitting ever since because being a special ed teacher is stressful and knitting helps!
We created our 2 Jittery Sisters shop because we like to knit and our houses are both over flowing with way too many ponchos, scarves, infinity scarves, hats, and mittens. So where does the Jittery come in? Well, Mara especially has a huge coffee addiction and she can get a bit jittery :)
This past year has been an extremely tough one. Mara's cancer came back and stumped all the doctors. She continued to run and knit through the summer, but this past fall the cancer became too much. Mara passed away October 10, 2021 leaving Amanda heart shattered. Mara left Amanda with 25 plus unfinished projects on needles, many without patterns or partly written out patterns she was creating. Amanda has been prayerfully going through and slowly attempting to complete each of these precious projects. Amanda now has all of Mara's unique designs altogether in a cherished binder and begun to attempt to recreate Mara's hats. Please be patient with Amanda as she tries to refill the inventory that Mara is no longer able to create.
